Amadeus Vol.1

Thursday September 6 2018 19:30, The Stoller Hall

Amadeus Vol.1This night you will find the libertine spirit of Mozart – hell-bent on bestowing upon you all sensual pleasures imaginable. The orchestra will be your lighthouse in this night of tempest. The Stoller Hall will be lit with the lightning of Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major and shaken by the thunder of the Jupiter Symphony. We bring you delicious darkness in Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor and the seminal Don Giovanni. In partnership with The Stoller Hall and Chetham’s School of Music.

Deutsche Romantik

Tuesday November 13 2018 19:30, The Bridgewater Hall

Deutsche RomantikWe revisit a time of musical poets, Schumann and Bruch, a wave of passion in a sea of German Romanticism that would come to influence the culture and philosophy of Europe and last far beyond the constraints of their era. Gábor is able to feed on the same muse that inspired these great composers to bring their distinct and colourful personalities to life once more. To aid him in this Romantic resurrection, our fantastic orchestra is joined by Leticia Moreno, who brings the flame of life in her passionate and mesmeric playing in Bruch’s famous violin concerto.

SaxofolkWe’re not just the gatekeepers of tradition – we use the past masters to inspire the way we interact with music in 2018. That’s why on this evening of folk tradition we’re featuring one of the best new musical talents in the UK – the captivating Jess Gillam (Classical Brit Award Winner 2018). In Manchester’s oldest venue we bring you a young talent that will change the way you listen to folk forever. Jess brings her love of all genres to bear here, a musical prodigy who loves Bowie as much as she loves Bartok.

UpClose: Manchester Camerata With Prose

Saturday March 23 2019 20:00, Academy 2

Manchester Camerata With ProseThis night promises to be one of the most riotous shows of the year as we join forces once more with the trio from Manchester, local heroes Prose. Signed to Virgin Records, this three-piece have already made huge waves in the Manchester music scene because of their unique fusion of hip hop, acoustic guitars and beats (‘organic-acoustic-hip-hop’). As if that wasn’t enough they also decided to work with an orchestra – ‘Probably Britain’s most adventurous orchestra’ (The Times). Last year, Band on the Wall could hardly contain the energy in the room when we collaborated onstage, and tonight sees us take this to one of the best venues in Manchester – Academy 2. Prose impressed GM Mayor Andy Burnham so much with their talent, on hearing the band’s tribute song to the victims of the Manchester Arena attack in 2017 – he invited them to perform at his one-year-on event. Expect raw emotion, melodic heart-rending songs, and a lot of love in the room.
