THE VOICE OF GOD? BEETHOVEN, DVORÁK AND MOZART IN BLACKBURN

Sunday 24 November 2013 7:30 pm
King George's Hall
Blackburn

Beethoven   Rondino
Dvorák  Serenade
Mozart  Serenade No. 10 in B-flat major (Gran Partita)

Gábor Takács-Nagy conductor

Containing some of the most extraordinarily inventive and uplifting music ever written for wind instruments, Mozart’s Serenade no.10 for 13 instruments is rightly regarded as one of the jewels of Classical music. Dvořák’s own Wind Serenade, written a century later, takes its starting point from the 18th century tradition, but is woven into a gorgeously lyrical and dance-infused work. Rondino, a charming early wind Octet by Beethoven completes the programme.

“This was a music I'd never heard. Filled with such longing, such unfulfilled longing, it had me trembling. It seemed to me that I was hearing the very voice of God.”
Antonio Salieri, speaking of K361, Mvt. III Adagio in the play Amadeus, by Peter Schaffer
