‘Martha Argerich has astounded audiences throughout her career with both the virtuosity and profundity of her performances of Beethoven’s music – it will be thrilling to perform one of Beethoven’s great works for piano and orchestra with her.’
Gábor Takács-Nagy

'One can only marvel at the depth of expression, spontaneity, sense of discovery and playfulness she brings' Gramophone

In a career spanning more than 50 years, world-renowned Argentinean pianist Martha Argerich has won legions of admirers for her uniquely expressive and spirited performances and her fresh, imaginative recordings. Argerich only rarely visits the UK, which is why MIF and Manchester Camerata are thrilled to welcome her to the city for this unmissable concert.

Over the years, Argerich has established a number of close working relationships with musicians around the world. One such kinship is with Gábor Takács-Nagy, Manchester Camerata's Music Director, with whom Argerich has performed regularly to brilliant effect. This artistic affinity has inspired tonight’s concert, which features three fantastic works that showcase the keyboard in very different ways.

Argerich will join Takács-Nagy and Manchester Camerata in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.1. Either side of this vibrant work, Manchester Camerata will perform Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste, a brooding masterpiece from 1937; and Arvo Pärt’s rich, powerful Lamentate, for which the orchestra will be joined by pianist David Kadouch, a rising star from the new generation.
