The season opens in the stunning surroundings of Manchester Town Hall with Arvo Pärt’s beautifully atmospheric elegy, Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten. We celebrate Britten’s centenary year in a programme coupling the youthful composer’s work with that of a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with whom he had such a close affinity. Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp is one of the composer’s most loved of concertos, performed here by principal flute, Amina Hussain, and former harpist to the Prince of Wales, Claire Jones. The programme concludes with the eighteen-year-old Mozart’s 29th Symphony, a work brimming with energy, invention and joy.

PRE-CONCERT TALK 6.30pm

Samantha McShane, Camerata's Head of Creative Programming, discusses Britten the opera composer with Stefan Janski, Head of Opera at the RNCM.
