Dresden was one of the most distinguished musical and artistic centres of the 18th century. The city was renowned for its praiseworthy crop of native composers, including Johann Adolf Hasse and Antonio Lotti. J.S. Bach’s brilliantly talented and wayward son, Wilhelm Friedemann, was an exceptional organist, while the fiercely gifted prodigy Johann Gottlieb Goldberg penned works so wellwritten that for more than half a century they were thought to be written by J.S. Bach himself!
