Rattle - Berlin Phil Until 2018

Sir Simon Rattle will stay on at the Berlin Philharmonic until 2018, it was confirmed at a press conference this week to unveil the orchestra's 2009-10 season.
Though the contract will not be officially signed until September, the orchestra management, musicians and Rattle himself have all now agreed on the deal, which will see the partnership - incredibly popular with Berlin concert-goers - continue for almost another decade. There had been rumours in past years about tensions between Rattle and some of the orchestra's musicians, though a spokesperson for the orchestra confirmed that the renewal was a collective decision.
