"Having enjoyed playing guitar and writing songs for a few years, Camerata has given me amazing opportunities to meet other young people with similar interests. More than this, and unlike other projects, it's the chance to work with experienced professional musicians. The projects that Camerata run offer me a relaxed space and give me confidence to share my creative ideas in a productive atmosphere.
"They give young people like me a voice. These sessions also build my confidence for other parts of my life.
"Where else would I have been able to work and perform with an orchestra? I've learned a lot from working in groups and have been given practical help and inspiration. As I've got more involved, I have gained new skills as I've helped with the planning and organisation of events and projects. I recommend Camerata to anyone who is looking to meet new friends, to develop their musical ability and who wants to be part of something new and exciting."
Camerata’s Youth Programme is a creative music programme for young people from all backgrounds across Greater Manchester. Leading this is the Youth Forum - a collective of young people who guide, shape and run Camerata's youth projects.
—Our work supports 500 young people each year (aged 13-18 years) – amazingly talented young artists who would otherwise not have the opportunity or platform to develop and share their talents
—Our programme creates the next generation of arts leaders, by giving young people the skills and experience to pursue their interest in the arts through further education, training and employment
—The Youth Forum create new music for performance onstage with the orchestra as part of our concert season
We deliver this work in partnership with Music Hubs, Youth Centres, Housing Associations and other arts organisations.
