Over the 2009/10 season, Manchester Camerata collaborated with the Bridgewater Hall Community Trust to present Songbook of the Earth. The learning project was inspired by Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde which was Camerata's contribution to the Manchester Mahler Season. Working with 14 primary schools across Greater Manchester, The Wirral and Chester the aim was to create a brand new song cycle inspired by the Earth, its environments and communities, which was then performed live on the Bridgewater Hall stage, accompanied by Manchester Camerata, on 19th April 2010. All the songs devised during the project are being published in a Songbook, providing a project legacy and vital learning tools for music lessons on schools.

Poet Terry Caffrey, composer Kate Pearson, and musicians from Manchester Camerata, visited each school for three workshops over the year, where they devised lyrics, and composed the music to set them to, before performing their new songs at the Bridgewater Hall.

We'd like to thank all those who played a part in making this such a successful project.
