UpClose is an eclectic series for the curious who want to experience classic and modern chamber music in a laid-back intimate setting. Each evening will be produced in collaboration with an artist from outside the music world, and will contain specially-created cross-art-form work.
This performance places two of Beethoven's early quartets Op.18 alongside music by the 20th century Finnish composer, Aulis Sallinen. Sallinen's third string quartet is a lyrical set of variations based on the mournful folk tune, Peltoniemi Hintrik's Funeral March.
