For the second Hungarian Portrait of the season, we feature Dances of Galanta, the work by the indefatigable folk song collector Zoltan Kodaly, inspired by gypsy music from the hometown of his youth. Fellow folk enthusiast Bela Bartok’s Concerto for two Pianos and Percussion is one of the great musical masterpieces, performed here by a stellar lineup of soloists, including Dame Evelyn Glennie, Camerata's very own Janet Fulton, Noriko Ogawa and Philip Smith. The concert finishes with Haydn’s cheeky last symphony, the closest the world of Classical music gets to a real knees-up.
In place of our usual encore slot we are delighted to present a late night performance by Evelyn Glennie, Noriko Ogawa and Philip Smith of Yoshihiro Kanno’s Earthstream and Brahms Hungarian Dances.
